Travelling from Australia getting sick isn't fun. Found the staff at this hospital so caring kind and full of empathy. All hospitals are busy, so patience is a virtue. The staff do a great jobđThank you so much for your kindness to me, Deborah Maloney Tumbarumba, Australia
Had to go their NYE and really can't praise the staff enough. It was quiet and things moved quickly, it would have been expected that it would have been slow, that's the nature of A&E but it was so efficient and the care and niceness of all staff from the porter, to the nurses to the doctors was unparalleled. It was my first time in A&E and they were all so great working in a very busy and tough environment I've no doubt :).
I was referred by my doctor on the 6/5/2025 as a TIA patient suspected stroke patient, I also had a old injury with nerve damage in my neck, and all I had done was a COVID test bloods a chest X-ray and X-ray on my neck and miraculously I was cleared of a stroke, the staff came to me at 2 am and told me I was discharged, and free to go home safe and sound there's definitely no signs of a stroke, as I didn't have a lift home they wanted me to pay for taxi I had no money on me so I had to wait until the following morning until a friend came to pick me up, I didn't feel right All that day, and it was that evening that I was out with friends and they noticed that my speech was slurred and gone my balance had gone, my vision was blurred, and my Head was thumping around the temples, so I rang a ambulance, 11:20pm and by the time the ambulance came and I got to Castlebar it was approximately 1 am I was laying on a trolley inside A&E but t the ambulance driver put me in a wheelchair and wheeled me into A&E and said I'd be looked after quicker there, I had completely lost my walk I was left in a wheelchair from 1am untill 1 or 2 the next day, I couldn't get to the toilet I asked at reception in a&e for help somebody is coming to you now I waited for 3 and half hours in the end I took out my mobile phone and I called a ambulance from A&E I wanted to be transferred to Sligo as soon as I made the call someone came took me to the toilet and put me back in the same spot in A&E, late Thursday afternoon 8th May I was seen by a doctor who examined me, and asked how I came to the hospital I said I was in the day before I was discharged being cleared of a stroke, he asked on what basis I said X-ray on the neck and chest X-ray and COVID test and bloods he sent me down for a brain scan that's when they found a bleed on the brain and the corrorted artery had a blockage. The amount MRIs ecos and investigations I've gotten through, having lost my walk and learning to walk again. That (doctor)downstairs in triage/ED he's not fit to be a vet I put him in charge, of putting a animal to sleep. I've been making complaints about this matter and I'm not letting this drop. It's pure and simple medical negligence and it's not on.
Excellent staff in all areas but the worst hospital experience you'll ever have, not enough space for patients. By tomorrow morning, I'll be 65 hours between sitting on a chair in A&E and lying on a trolley in a hallway in A&E. Is this normal? , here, I think it is :( and about 4 hours sleep :(
Amazing team of people working there from the person in A&E who took my details, the ladies and gentlemen who accessed me, x-rayed me, wheeled me around the hospital like a king and took care of me. Treated me with good humor and genuine care. Also all the nuns and other people in the waiting rooms who shared the craic and kept ourselves engaged to make the hours fly by. Delighted to have this service and these kind of people in my county, thanks be to God đđŒđ€đŒđ (Ps. Special note that this was the Sunday after all the damage and disturbance caused by Storm Eowyn, Maith ThĂș!)
