Had a major operation, that had one or two things go wrong for me. The care that I recieved from the Recovery Ward to my 13 day stay at St Gerards was absolutely mind blowing. I could not leave my bed for 4 days, and the nurses who cared for me made me feel so relaxed to what was sometimes an embarrassing situation. Nurses should be the highest paid people in or working world, to do what they do with such Warm smiles has to be experienced to be believed.
A good news story from the health sector: I have been lucky enough never to have spent a night in hospital, though yesterday I spent in UCHG having a minor operation. Despite hours between check-in and the surgery, I had a great experience. At every level, the staff were amazing: receptionists, porters, aids, nurses, interns, junior doctors, anaesthetists, all the way up to the surgeon. Not a cross word, no condensation, respect in every exchange, with patients and between each other. And not just politeness but real warmth. Many years ago, when I was a student, I worked in a hospital as a porter and it was not like this. So, hats off to the people in the Surgical Day Ward and in UCHG in general.
Best hospital I've been to . Staff caring compassionate. Waiting times might be a bit long , but you get sorted. Not like other 2 hospitals that send me home saying I was fine.
My child was admitted via ED in early hours of morning a few months ago with post tonsillectomy bleed. I phoned ahead to paed ED to notify them in advance as advised after surgery to do so if a bleed happened. My daughter was seen immediately on arrival. The receptionist was also aware of her situation on arrival so she wasn't left in waiting area. Every staff member was truly exceptional.
Have been waiting for 3 hours now, when i asked the doctor if there's any other hospital that could take us, he laughed in my face and just said "No, it's gonna take a looong time" and kicked us out back into the waiting room, the receptionist was mean and wasn't trying to give me any answers when i asked how long the wait usually is, absolutely awful hospital, i wish there was another one opened so i wouldn't have to smell breaths of around 40 people in the waiting room. I'm not surprised they put a sign asking to not verbally insult staff, they better get to work or I'm gonna do more than verbally insult.
